Regional Focus

Four Mediterranean basins were selected as focus regions of CO-MICC (Fig. 1). The Ebro basin is located in Eastern Spain. The other three basins, namely the Moulouya, Chelif and Wadi Majardah (also known as Medjerda) basins, are distributed between Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia (MAT region).

The performance of the hydrological models used to compute the climate change freshwater-related hazard indicator data was tested against in situ observations at gauging stations located within these basins (see Hydrological Projections). Furthermore, stakeholders from the Ebro basin and the MAT region (see Stakeholders) were actively involved in the co-development phases of the project.

Figure 1: CO-MICC focus basins. The delineated basins correspond to the Ebro basin (Spain), the Moulouya basin (Morocco and Algeria), the Chelif basin (Algeria) and the Wadi Majardah basin (Algeria and Tunisia). The location of gauging stations used for model evaluation purposes are shown as red triangles.
